Profile Information

Why did Anne Frank write?  Or Lincoln, or Shakespeare, or Fitzgerald?  Perhaps for the same reason as myself: I want my audience to feel something; whether gladness or despondency; I want them to read, reflect and muse; I aim to invite them into my subject, show them my logic, my angle, my capacity for emotion – then allow it to sink in gently before they contemplate and elicit a response.  In fact, F. Scott Fitzgerald once said: “You don’t write because you want to say something, you write because you have something to say.”          But admittedly I have not always been so eloquent.  Up until about fifteen my words were but broken parts: the amalgamated and useless components of a dormant machine.  I struggled to piece them together and express what I really wanted to say.  However, I began to read more often, better quality, very studiously – looking up and noting down any unfamiliar word.  It became like scripture, I was almost reading spiritually, where every novel was a revelation!      It wasn’t long before cogs started turning, lights began flickering and the crescendo of power aroused the lethargic robot – I could write, it was liberating.
