Profile Information

I've been writing for as long as I can remember.  I've never had anything published other than a few articles I wrote while taking a journalism class for the college newspaper (when I was in my 30's). I enjoy short stories and poetry. I won't read a novel at this site. I enjoy some science fiction and fantasy but don't do vampires at all. I've never read or seen Twilight, Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. But I am a huge fan of Jedi Knights, Wookies and the Millenium Falcon. I like some romance but because I am heterosexual, it's the only type that interests me. A good mystery is my favorite type of novel to read at home. Mary Higgins Clark is one of my favorite authors. Steven King is one of the best authors I've ever read. He is a word wizard with an uncanny ability to weave a story that makes me want to read more. Unfortunately, most of his subject matter makes me squiggle up my nose and slam the book shut, never to be touched again. The visions are so vividly created by his word usage that the reader "goes there". And I don't want to go to some of those places or situations. That's why Steven King is a master.

No one can be good at writing if they don't read. So turn of the television and pick up a book. It's what allows us to "imagine". I'm always disappointed after watching a movie if I've read the book and enjoyed it. Rarely does the movie follow the story close enough, and some casting director has stolen my imagination and twisted it into something I just can't identify with. I believe every writer owes their readers their best. If a piece is full of grammar and spelling mistakes I lose interest and will not waste my time reading or commenting. Reading is a form of entertainment. Make it so.

"Writing a book of poetry is like dropping a rose petal down the Grand Canyon and waiting for the echo."
