DaKat

Da Kat is a native from Long Island, New York. He has resided in California for over thirty five years. 

The hospitality (bar business) industry my choice of careers. To be attentive to others needs comes naturally. 

Da Kat is a pen-name for a writer given with the birth-name David Katz. If you eliminate 'vid' from David and ditch the 'Z' in Katz, well the rest is history.

The rules which govern the stories are: the words ‘I’ and ‘me’ will never be used. The second rule is the stories must be of substance and significance. Consider each story as a child’s coloring book for your imagination. You are allowed to fill in the colors as you wish.

The essence of the stories is what drives the author. The stories represent persistence, perseverance and patience. Each story is a triumph and the author wishes to offer the world something new, refreshing and positive.

I have done many things in this life but, my five most outstanding achievements would be:

1. Graduating Cal Poly with a B.S in Food Science, (S.L.O); class of 1987

2. Being my Fathers primary caregiver for ten years after my Mother passed.

3. Owning and operating a very successful restaurant and bar here in S.L.O for over twenty years.

4. I have trained hundreds of people the 'art' of the hospitality business.

5. In addition; I live my life by the 'Golden rule'; knowing that I have made a positive effect on those who surround me.

My 100 word stories come from long stories, novellas and prose. A story must relay a message to me and, then it’s reduced to its core. It is only then I apply my wordsmith ability all the while; making sure the integrity of the story is intact. I consider it much like diamond hunting. Taking a rough diamond and very carefully turning it into a shining beautiful thing to behold is how I like to write.

I am passionate about composition and elements of style (Strunk & White) and then I trust in my editor to polish a story. I am as passionate about writing as I was about hospitality and beverage management. "You must love what you do".
