Dr. Somerville lived most of his life in "strange and out-of-the-way places not visted by normal peoplei". Afthough he calls Australia home, he as had his mail forwarded to addresses in McKeesport, Pennsylvania; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Pohnpei, Micronesia; Broken Hill, N.S.W., Australia; Adelaide, South Australia; Bothwell, Tasmania; Guangzhou, China and, of course Upper Whytheport, Grande Duky of Holfknong.
He is a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College, Riverina College of Advanced Education in Wagga Wagga, Flinders University and the University of Adelaide with doctoral research through the auspices of Regis and Magil University. The laboratories of Pembroke School, Springridge Academy, Tri-city College and Graceland University have survived his many experiments and those of his students. The ceilings in those hallowed halls of learning still bear the scars of mixtures and concoctions gone awry.
An accidental adventurer, he has found himself stranded on sandbars in the middle of the ocean, suspended precariously over yawning chasms, climbing glaciers in tennis shoes and exploring hidden underground caverns on his belly. Professional associations of science and technology as well as medicine, travel and exploration claim him amonsgt their membership rolls. Although he has been recognized as a gifted and talented educator, his personal pride rests in his world reknown potato salad recipe.
Included in the list of famous people with whom he has shared a good cuppa are found the names of Eleanor Rosevelt, U Thant, Richard Nixon, Barry Goldwater, Al Gore , Robert Heinlien ,Mickey Rooney , Norman Vincent Peale and four previous prime ministers of Australia.
The Visitor's Guide to the Duky of Grande Holfknong is a continuing work and hobby which began in the mid-sixties, when the good doctor was a writer and performer on the Intercollege Broadcasting System's (IBS) "Radio Holfknong" series. This book is also a tribute, of sorts, to his good friend and colleague John Demchack, alias James Wing of Radio Holfknong fame.
