About

Ian Nettleton lives in Norwich. He has worked in advertising, as an illustrator (drawing diatoms for the Zoological Institute in Naples – a place co-founded by Charles Darwin – and covers for Unthank Books), a TV writer/presenter (on Front Room for BBC Pebble Mill, summarising works of fiction in sixty seconds), a radio presenter (Future FM), as a care worker, in a bookshop on Charing Cross Road, as a teacher of medical English in Prague, a professional reader for The Literary Consultancy and as a lecturer in creative writing for the UEA, the Open University (undergraduate and MA level) and the National Centre for Writing, Norwich. He has a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing from the UEA.

 

Ian’s long short story, Falling Star, was published in the science fiction anthology, Angles (2006) and he has been published in Not About Love (2008) and The Petrified World and other tales (2018) the Edinburgh International Flash Fiction Award anthology, Life on the Margins (2020) and on Paragraph Planet (2021). His literary thriller, The Last Migration, was runner-up in the inaugural Bath Novel Award 2014 and runner-up in the inaugural Bridport Prize Peggy Chapman-Andrews Award 2014. His flash fiction story, All the Times He Tried and Failed, was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize Flash Fiction competition 2019 and longlisted for the Reflex Flash Prize 2019 and shortlisted for the Edinburgh International Flash Fiction Award 2020.
