Profile Information

Alan Rogers was born in a nondescript village in upstate New York on a glorious August morning while birds chirped gleefully outside the hospital. His father Francis was an auto mechanic, and his mother Camilla was a moderately successful songwriter who was known for the 1950’s hit “Dirty Nails.”

Alan has always maintained that life experience makes a good storyteller, and it also helps if you are an excellent liar. Joy, love, hate, anger, peace, and grief all build character. Alan was 10 years old when he first experienced grief after his pet hamster Bucky ran away and never returned. He soon got over this loss, and was able to release his heartache by strangling bunnies in the yard.

Writing has been Alan’s passion since the age of 7 when he began carving names in the neighbor’s trees. Finding this type of writing too arduous, he started slicing short stories on his brother’s back with a razor. Most of these early writings were sadly lost when his brother was badly burned during a Christmas fire in 1969. Alan continued writing on prison walls while doing a 10 year bid for arson.

Released in 1972, Alan remained free for one year before being gently restrained in a psychiatric facility for an undisclosed reason. He kept a journal during the next 4 years of therapy, and was again released to the world in 1976.

After 2 years of wearing out plastic dolls, Alan married Mary Swinton in 1978. The wedding was supposed to be held at the Church Of The Creator in Wyoming, and it wasn’t until the first walk-through that Alan became aware the church was a white separatist religion. After a 90 mph chase from the church, he and Mary were married at Bob’s Drive Thru Unions on route 120 south of Thermopolis.

Alan’s first novel Lyam’s Journal was published in 2008.

 Alan’s Major Influences:

 1) Dr. Anthony Maldonado (deceased)

 2) Bucky (missing)

 3) His brother Ralph (disabled)
