Welcome to Booksie!

Booksie is first and foremost a sharing platform for writers and readers alike. I shall make sure to carry on that solemn goal and tradition by accepting reading requests. Send me your works and I shall tell you my opinion on them. But just as a stream of water cannot be both the river and the spring, let us help each other. I shall review your work, in return, you review one of mine. Let us be both respectful about our comments, and if you carry and commit to that request, I shall be obliged to the same when reviewing your work.

The Writer

Issachar Bacang is a Filipino student, writer, orator, and novice of the Third Order Salesians. His short stories have been published on the Ronin Express Anthologies Volumes 5 and 6. He has published a number of academic articles on the topics of tradition, sociology, and politics.

a message from him...

Hello Everyone! My name is Issachar U Bacang. I am a Filipino student and writer of Cebuano-Negrense ethnicity hailing from the university town of Dumaguete City. A son of St. John Bosco, I am a devout Catholic, and my Catholicism is a theme that often colors the stream of my stories, poems, and editorials. My favorite topics and subjects of interest are philosophy, theology, history, morality, and ethics. I enjoy them very much and plan to pursue an academic career to find stability and make money whilst I continue to enjoy them. My literary influences include Gene Wolfe, Chesterton, Teresa of Avila, and Lovecraft.

The Writing

My style of writing, especially in my essay and editorial work and some of my prose, can be described as difficult and complex (not my words) and is a result, I think for the most part, from my extensive deep dive into older literature. the feel, taste, diction, and sheer placement of words and sentences feel old-school, and I believe that seeped into my work and overtime became my style. All my fiction takes place in a universe just like our own, the main difference being the daily interference of the mystical and macabre, the otherworldly and deliciously demonic. I strive (though I am painfully unaware if  I succeed or not) to inject my morality and ethics into each and every piece of fiction. My themes revolve around the mystical and magical for some of my tamer works, and the macabre, horrifying, and cosmically crippling for my edgier stories (I sure as hell hope so...)

another message...

I have a particular interest in Gregorian chants, the colorful medieval canon of illuminated manuscripts and incunables, the modern chant band 'Adoration of the Cross' and 'Calmavi de Profundis', the metal bands 'Sabaton', 'PowerWolfe', 'Lamb of God', 'Ghost', and 'Pentakill'.

I have a special place in my heart for bands like 'Caravan Palace', 'Capital Cities', and 'Owl City', along with what I consider as his musical successors Destery Smith and Jordan Sweeto.

I listen to oldies such as 'the Platters', Bread, Matt Monro, Engelbert Humperdink, Frank Sinatra, Anne Murray, and Cher. For the real oldies, I've listened to the 'Hortus Deliciarium' album by Hildegard of Bingen for hours, and 'Oh Scared head now wounded' by Bernard of Clairvaux.

Anything and everything, plus a little over of Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Tayor Swift, Katie Perry, and Mariah Carey did before 2010 make up a sizeable bulk of the cannon of my musical taste.

There is only one song in Japanese that I'll ever listen to repeatedly and it's 'PONPONPON' by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.
