Where I Am At, and Where I Want to Be
Last November I participated in NaNoWriMo, and while I failed to meet my goal I learned a lot about myself as a writer. I learned that I am a serial story abandoner. I can get 20,000 or 30,000 words into a story and decide I hate it and start something new. It is like my brain likes coming up with ideas more than finishing them. I am constantly world building, thinking of settings and societal conditions to put my characters into but ignoring the details needed to round out my characters. My characters are flat and clone like, indiscernible from one to the next. I realize I am not the only one to have these issues. I think it is important to step back and look at our writing and try to see it for what it really is. That way we can improve and take another step to our final goals.
My Goals: Pick one of my many story ideas and stick with it. I want to stop floating from concept to concept. I want to complete character sheets on the Main Characters and get to know them before I start writing. I plan on committing at least one hour a day to uninterrupted writing and more whenever possible.
I enjoy writing short stories, maybe because I can spit out an idea nad quickly move on, but I want to focus on character driven short stories for the forseable future.

"Writing is like being a shop keeper, every day you have to open the shop and stand behind the counter. Somedays nothing will happen but other days your store will be packed. As a writer its your job to open the shop, sit at your desk and see what happens" -Unknown
