Profile Information

I'm an aircraft mechanic, graphic designer, simulator engineer, jack of all trades with a love of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

I was born in Dublin, Ireland, back in '87, I left that rainy little island at a very young age, and in the subsequent years travelled to more countries than I can list off the top of my head. Eventually I ended up owning a boat down in Spain at the age of 18, it was there that I learnt the necessary skills required to be a mechanic and engineer. By 21 I was a fully qualified simulator engineer, and frequently commuted from my Spain up to England for work. It was then, during the long nights in Cadiz, with little entertainment, and barely any internet, that I started writing, I never did much with the stories, most of them are still sitting on old flash drives, but it kept some of my sanity. At 22 I left Spain, and sailed to Portugal, work was thinning out, and I knew it wouldn't be long before I was broke, so at 23 I sold the boat, and headed back to America, where I'd spent some time as a child.

Upon arriving in America, I was at a loss as to what to do. So with my knowledge of machines and aircraft, became an aircraft mechanic, bought myself an RV, and set about looking for work somewhere in the states, the "land of opportunity", that didn't end well, and at 24 I was parked in Tennessee at a friends house, living in the RV, and generally enjoying the good life. It was during this period that I started writing again, having given up on it a few years previously. This time the writing was in the form of long, multipage roleplays on the site deviantART. Once again, all of those are stuffed on a flash drive.

By 25 I was down in Florida, one of the few states I really knew, having lived there as a child. I was sitting in an RV park near Tampa, with little money, and no prospect of work, things were rough, writing, and my girlfriend were the few things that kept me going. Finally near the end of 2012, thing got interesting, and more than once I was convinced I was as good as dead. With the few friends I had abandoning me, getting kicked onto the streets of one of the worst counties in Florida, begging for food and money, and finally ending up in a homeless shelter, but through it all, I kept coming up with story ideas, things I wanted to write about, and if I was dead, I couldn't do that. During Christmas at the shelter, whilst everyone else was outside trying to be festive, I wrote about people exploring new worlds, and tales of high fantasy. Most of those have since been lost, as they were written on cheap paper. During my time there, I learnt that my girlfriend wanted nothing to do with me, and for the first time in that rough patch, considered just giving up entirely, but I got through, eventually getting in contact with my father, who I hadn't spoken to for years. He was in the states, and flew out to Florida to help me out. Though he still didn't like me, having had a falling out years ago, he sent me "home", back to Ireland. Here I am now, writing this bio, and wondering how it got so long.

I wonder if it sounds too whiny, but it's part of who I am, why not get it out there. If I dislike it after re-reading it in a few days, I'll modify it.

Whilst it was rough times, I'm sure that some day it'll inspire me to write from a different perspective, and truly, it's the experiences, both good and bad, that truly make a person. Let's see what the future brings.
