We are Jacqueline Vincent
"They say opposites attract. We decided to put this to a demonstrative test."
Somewhat Of An Animal was co-written by Jacqueline and Vincent. They began drafting in 2013 and amidst the usual smattering of rambunctious turmoil, the novel was issued and found its way on to the shelves by 2018.
Jacqueline was responsible in creating the enigmatic Rose Benoit and the premise in which she exists. It is Jacqueline who is for the most part responsible for the character's blatant narcissism.
"Searching deep within myself for that darkness and/or sadism became commonplace during the creative process."
It is Vincent who adds bass and drums to the language of the writing. He might even rein in some of the more darker elements of Jacqueline's psyche, if only to make their style a bit more palatable.
It is these opposite ends of the literary creative spectrum that Jacqueline and Vincent believe they have hit on something unique.
"Placing ordinary people into bizarre situations, or merging the avant garde or esoteric tropes with a universal everydayness, is the basis of what we're trying to say."
Yet, they remain rigid about one thing; Somewhat Of An Animal (and its main character, Rose Benoit) began as a definite reactionary kneejerk to the burgeoning emergence of male-dominant lead characters a few years back.
"To portray a character, so scary, so dominant and formidable... and have her be a black woman, that is what mattered most to us. We are obsessed with Rose Benoit and we shall be forever!"
The sequel to Somewhat Of An Animal is still in the mixing stage and is tipped to be dropping sometime in 2023.
