My name is Koko™. I know what you're probably thinking, so I'll take the liberty to clarify that yes, it is my real name. I was named after a stuffed koala bear my older brother had when he was a little boy. FUN FACT: Due to the oddness of my name, my grandpa on my dad's side (who was always up for a laugh) wrote a note that said "Made in China", and put it outside my incubator! My grandma (on my mom's side) did NOT think it was as funny as my grandpa - and everyone else - thought it was! I think it's hilarious! Oh, and just incase you were wondering, I was NOT made in China nor was I born in China - instead, I was born in Green Bay, WI on Groundhog Day in 1978.
I have enjoyed writing ever since I was a child and have numerous short stories under my belt ("Pete and the Glowing Star", "Lucy the Car", and "The Unusual" are a few of my earliest works as a child). However, there was a big span, beginning in my teenage years, that I stopped writing all together. Growing pains I guess :) Then, one day, about six years ago and completely out of the blue, I began hearing a voice inside my head. This voice kept repeating the same six words: YOU NEED TO WRITE A STORY. This went on for days, but I became frustrated because, try as I might, I just couldn't come up with a good story idea. All I knew is that it would be a children's fiction story. But the voice was incessant: YOU NEED TO WRITE A STORY. YOU NEED TO WRITE A STORY. So, I mentioned it to my brother a few times, kind of more in passing. Well, a couple weeks went by, and I had had enough - I KNEW something had to be done or this voice was going to drive me bonkers! So, I mentioned it once more to my brother, but was much more serious about it. I asked if he'd like to write a story together. Thankfully, he said, "Sure!" And the rest is history! For the last five years we have been working on an epic-fantasy novel together (think "Lord of the Rings" mixed with "Harry Potter", minus all humans or humanoid characters). My brother is, what I consider, a creative genius, so it's quite amazing to combine something completely orginal from both of our brains, onto paper. I have also been writing very short stories for children (I consider them really more as picture book stories, but unfortunately, I cannot draw to save my life!)
Besides completing and getting our novel published, I am currently writing more short stories (like Catching Cooties) and with the intention of going out and reading them to children in schools, libraries, hospitals, etc. To see kids' faces light up at the stories I've created would be AMAZING!
I currently reside in Appleton, WI with my husband and our two cats, Chew & Yo Yo. .
Currently I work as an Administrative Assistant in the marketing department at a casino. I'll end this here as I'm not into writing torture stories! Thanks for reading!
