Profile Information

Born in 1954 in Middletown, New York, the oldest of three children (two girls and a boy).  Father died suddenly in 1961; my mother remarried in 1965.  I gained an older stepsister and thereafter two half-sisters.

Spent 11 years there in the beautiful, green Hudson Valley, New York in a home situated between two dairy farms.  Moved to dry, arid, windy Kingman, Arizona in 1965 because of my mother's failing health.  (She needed a dry climate; we got it in SPADES!)  Married in 1974, had a daughter in 1975.  Moved to Los Angeles, California in 1976; had another daughter in 1978.  Moved to Rice Hill, Oregon soon thereafter; had another daughter in 1979.  Moved to Sutherlin, Oregon in 1980; had our only son in 1981.  Moved to Yoncalla, Oregon in 1986; had our last child, another daughter, in 1989.  (Began to think that if we quit moving, maybe we'd quit having more children!!)  Moved to Steamboat, Oregon; then to Glide, Oregon; then to Roseburg, Oregon.  Now living in Eugene, Oregon.

Mother of five (four girls and a boy); grandmother of six (three granddaughters, three grandsons).

Have been writing poetry since I was 10; it just seemed to come naturally to me.  I could crank out two poems a week easily.  Filled a notebook full of them.  My fifth grade English/Literature teacher encouraged me to publish my work.  The class even "studied" me along with Carl Sandburg and Robert Frost.  My mother did not agree with my English teacher.  Before we moved to Arizona, my mother threw the poetry-filled notebook away, saying there was no monetary future in writing poetry.  (??!!)  I was devastated!!  I didn't write for the money; I wrote because I was inspired, I could express how I felt, describe what I experienced.  I didn't write for the money!  I wrote ... because!  ("Sigh")

Also wrote lyrics.  Performed briefly with a local coffee house group reciting my poetry, singing songs with my re-written lyrics, etc.  Now I write for fun, for home-made greeting cards of various genres, for framed gifts, etc.  Usually to comfort, encourage, express friendship, and love.

After my youngest half-sister married a deaf man, I learned American Sign Language, the beautiful, expressive language of the deaf.  Now, in addition to working full-time for a non-profit law firm, I interpret part-time for the deaf and am heavily involved helping the deaf learn what the Bible really teaches, using the Bible which has been translated into ASL on DVD.  So exciting and fulfilling!
