The Bridge House
The Bridge House is a story based around the life and times of my grandmother Lily. Much of the story is true although I am wrapping certain parts in my writer's imagination to tell readers of the times through which my grandmother lived.
It isn't just a series of events I wish to relate or even to develop the characters within these events but to share how the characters felt in some important times within history. My grandmother was born in 1890, the story starts just after her 11th birthday and the death of Queen Victoria. It wil, finish with the birth of my daughter, Lily's great grandaughter and the first girl to be born in our family for 100 years.
All her life my daughter suffered renal problems. She had two failed transplants and then a successful transplant when she was a small child. Without the help of Ronald McDonald House at Guys Hospital in London my family could never have coped with my daughter's illness. When published in October all royalties from sales will be given to Ronald McDonald House Charities.
My daughter died suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday 19th May aged 34 years. At that point I felt I could not continue writing a story which was working its way towards her birth. I explained this to my wife who said not to stop but to write the story for Rebekah, my daughter.
So that is what I am doing. I try to write an average of one thousand words a day. The story will be finished in October. What yiou read here is a draft, typois the lot ! When finished I will take the draft and bring everything to a close.
The first picture above shows Lily holding Rebekah a few days after hewr birth.
This second picture shows Rebekah as a young adult.
Thank you for reading the story.
I hope you enjoy it.
