Profile Information

Hello, My name is Michael Pereira and I am a computer jack-of-all-trades, so to speak. I was born and raised just outside of Boston, Massachussetts. When I was about 8 years old my family started moving about the country every two years or so. By the time I turned 18 I had lived in Massachussetts, Florida, North and South Carolina, Minnesota and Alabama. Within those states we lived in two or three different cities each, so by the time I graduated High School I had attended over 20 different schools. Many people would consider that too many or would think that it would be detrimental to my education or social integration, but from my perspetive at the time it did not. On the contrary I learned to adapt to new environments quickly, make new friends quickly and I learned so much about the cultures in each area of the country. All in all, I believe that it was very beneficial for me.

After High School I attended a local Community College first studying accounting, then shifting to Criminal Justice. Accounting was the most boring semester fo my life and the thought of doing that for 40 plus years was frightening. But when I switched to Criminal Justice it was like night and day. I loved it. I graduated second in my class, missing first place by a tenth of a point. While attending school I had landed a job doing customer service for Bellsouth Mobility, a local cell phone provider. After a year on the phones I was promoted to a technical training role and when I graduated school i was already making more than a first year police officer and I really liked my job with technology, so I decided to stick with it and see where it went. Of course, I am so glad that I did.

My next job was working for Adobe Systems as a technical trainer. It was there that my career journey really began. As I learned almost all of Adobe's line of software in order to teach it to new hires who would be supporting it on the phones, I began to use it to develop my training materials. This was back in the mid 1990s and web-based training and training videos were pretty much unheard of back then, so as I learned to use all of this high end software, I challenged myself to build things with it. I was using some of the earliest versions of Photoshop, Flash (*Still owned by Macromedia at the time.) Premiere, After Effects, Dreamweaver (*Macromedia), GoLive, LiveMotion, PageMaker, InDesign, FrameMaker and more. I was using these cutting edge applications to design some of teh very first blended learning programs at Adobe, Apple Computers and HSBC, the worlds largest bank.

I held a few positions as a technical training developer, training manager and technical writer before spending the last 15 years or so a variety of different roles such as writing web-based software applications, UI/UX (Software Interface) designer, video producer, creative director and recently completed a year and a half contract with a major bank as a SharePoint developer.

So as a writer, I have a great deal of experience documenting technical subject matter and writing training manuals and other materials. This is what I tend to write these days, for the most part. I do have several pieces of fiction in the works, but they will take a while to complete. These novels are quite fun to write, however they are time consuming.

I hope this brief overview of who I am gives you a bit of insight into who I am and the things that I do. I tried to keep it a simple and straightforward tale that tells the story of me. Thank you for taking the time to read it and please contact me if you need a highly experienced e-learning developer, web design and multimedia consultant. If you only need one of those I can live with that too!
