WHEW !

Starting on Jan. 1, '16, I will have a go at posting one new item every day.

Flash fiction; very short short stories; 'regular size' short stories; 'Parts' of longer short stories, and 'Chapters' of novellas or serials.

I will post 'Parts' and ' Chapters' in sequence.

Well, we'll see.

Cheers!

I am on vacation until May 6, 2016, after 97 straight days of posting.

My goal remains 365, but some doubling up will be necessary. We'll see.

Cheers!

Great news!  At last!

The Marathon is over!

The 365 pound gorilla is off my back!

365 postings on the Internet at Booksie.com and Writing.com, under the name of

                                               NICHOLAS COCHRAN

Although my “every-day-a-post” of a short story or a chapter of a novel, a novella, or a novelette, took longer than the calendar year beginning January 1, 2016, the only reasons for the extension were ‘time and circumstances’; ‘circumstances’ perhaps being the subject for a later email.

However, there were some good streaks: one of 116 days in a row, another of 96 days.

Why? Why undertake the challenge?

Despite dabbling with pencil, pen, typewriter, and laptop for over sixty years, I really knew squat about ‘writing’. I needed the test of discipline, perseverance, resolve—all the qualities that I lacked, resulting in piles of unfinished ideas.

I took my cue from the premier novelists who were at one time newspaper columnists, men who had to submit writing on a daily basis or be fired. Now, there’s an incentive.

The results are listed below.

    What next?

My 365s are practice. I never had the intention—and certainly not the expectation—that anything I wrote during my 365 day marathon would be worthy of any great consideration, or publication. I was only trying to earn my chops. They are simply learning exercises, ‘friendlies’, ‘exhibition games’.  What comes next is real work.

Although I have learned innumerable ideas, techniques, and approaches for producing better writing, the realization of that ‘better writing’ remains to be seen.

    I’ll keep you posted.

    Cheers!
