Profile Information

My name is Marc, and after a lot of stumbling and uneasy shuffling, I'm beginning to find my feet and my home in Brighton. My work in the accounts department of a large local company keeps the roof over my head, but I am currently looking for employment in other fields which will allow me time to study literature and creative writing, with the aim of going to university in the near future. Due to personal circumstances, I have not written much over the past year or so. I have decided to mark the commencement of a new life by commencing work on a new portfolio of writing.

I mostly write poetry, although I do dabble in fiction, and hope one day to publish a novel. My poetry from hereon will usually be metric and closed-form, most of the time either narrative or personally reflective, and always cathartic. I am yet to truly find my own voice with regards to my prose writing- it depends largely on who I have been reading at the time. I am, however, beginning to find a style that suits me in minimalist writing, along the lines of writers such as Chuck Palahniuk. Two short stories that I have written in this manner are currently being used to teach creative writing at my former college. Discounting the handful of poems that have been included in various anthologies to encourage me to part with just $59.95 plus shipping for the leatherbound coffeetable edition, my work is yet to be published.

My favourite authours include Jack Kerouac, Kurt Vonnegut, George Orwell, Stephen Fry, and Neil Gaiman, with a supporting cast of thousands. My favourite poets are Byron, Auden, Betjeman, Pope, Chaucer, Shakespeare, and a countless number of the local spoken word poets and authours, artists, song writers, and hippies with crazy hair who remind me every day that life is beautiful.

If there is anything else you'd like to know, please don't hesitate to ask- I look forward to meeting you.
