Profile Information

The name's Rob and my game is writing novels. I have been writing seriously since February of 2018, and am currently finishing up my second book. My day job as a chiropractor pays the bills, but my passion lies in my writing, which I've become more or less addicted to since I started doing it every day.

Since I was young, I've been an avid reader. Horror and sci/fi were always my favorites, and it manifests in my writing. It started with Goosebumps, and by the time I was in early adolescence I was mowing down books by Stephen King and Ray Bradbury two or three at a time; two authors who still dominate my bookshelves. And even though my palate has expanded since then, the genres I gravitate to always seem to have elements of the macabre included, both in my reading and writing.

Writing enriches me, and before I attempted my first book I did it simply for fun; getting all of those monsters and dark adventures out of your head and on to paper feels good, doesn't it? I continue to write for me, but I one day hope to write for my readers' enrichment as well as my own. And, honestly, I want to scare the crap out of them.

I'll do it to you too, if you can muster an attempt at one of my books.

Today, my bookshelves are populated by the likes of Heinlein, Palanhiuk, Dave Wallace, Dan Simmons, Jack London, Asimov, as well as young guns like Joe Hill and Gillian Flynn. I generally buy books by the basket at the thrift shop and collect them faster than I can absorb them, but it doesn't stop me. Books are my compulsion, and I've no shame in admitting it.

I write every day for at least two hours, even on work days, and generally get through about 1000 words in each session. Some days are better, and some far worse, but you all know how that goes.

My first book is a Mystery/Thriller in the same vein as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo or something by Dennis LeHane. 109k words and took me from March through November 2018 to complete. It's currently being edited by a few trusted friends.

The second book is a dystopian horror filled with futuristic drugs, evil corporations, cyborg politicians, hyper violent game shows and terrifying technology such as omnipotent, personalized AI for government officials. It's far more feverish, frenetic and satirical than my first book, and takes itself far less seriously. If I get my way, it'll read like a drug-induced, paranoia-laced fever dream. I've been writing it since early February of 2019 and will have it ready for editing by the end of April. It looks to be shaping up to be 60-65 thousand words.

Please let me know if you're at all interested in my work, or feel free to just message me to talk! I love talking books, writing, and picking the brains of fellow scribblers. Hell, I might pick your brain right out of your head!
