Profile Information

There are things in this world that are known and witnessed worth writing about. I have several professions and I am also a grad student, but I have known and witnessed many tales worth capturing. All names have been changed to protect myself and my subjects. Just how true are my stories? What does "Loosely based on a True Story" mean? It means certain facts have been included in the stories in another form to keep the integrity of the story while still remanining true to the tenants of good short fiction.

My stories are usually local color -Philadelphia to be exact- as it's never been done. Kate Chopin is my muse; try reading her short fiction some time. My work is frequently published in Culture Asylum Magazine, a creation so on the fringe that it's mindblowing. I highly recommend picking it up if you either want to learn or simply to keep up with the deep, dark underground. If you like my work, read something new of mine in CAM every other month. I also publish children's books under a different name.

Coming soon to my portfolio: "The Eccentric Athelete", the stylized true story of a teenage girl who joins a varisity football team; the conclusion of "A Bottle of Dom", a slice-o-life verbatim true story about a very special day during my first year of teaching; several of my best historical essays previously unpublished; "The Rutford Tales: The Unexpected Chapters of Exit 27"; and a wide array of powerful poetry.

On a more personal note, suffice it to say that I love living and take it to the edge everyday when I'm "off-duty". I have had experiences that people only fantasize about or see in movies, but I have also had some that are the stuff of nightmares. If you like my writing and want a little advice, write what you know. Authenticity and believability are key to good storytelling.

And yes, I took my profile picture. Behold the power of tornadoes!

PS, In response to the many comments on my gentrification article, all I can say is that if you don't know or understand what I'm talking about, i.e. you are not a lifelong resident of the ghetto, then don't read the essay. Those who have commented so far are merely white supremacists with no understanding of being black. Whites dominate the American culture, therefore are in a position of power, and can easily look down on those who have been oppresed since colonial times. If you don't understand or in any way appreciate the culture, then don't knock it...
