IMPOSTER SYNDROME
I cannot remember a single day during my whole life when I have been confident about myself and my abilities. Compliments go unheeded... well, they're only being nice. Achievements give me a fleeting buzz, until that nagging voice tells me the truth... if I can do it, anyone can!
Over time, I have learned to be a good actress, to live behind a mask of confidence, all the time just waiting to be 'found out' for the complete fool that I really am, which is my default mindset.
I've discovered that I actually suffer from a mental affliction known as Imposter Syndrome, and though I've tried to overcome it, in reality, the demon that it is continues to influence my thinking and shatters my self esteem. I constantly compare myself to other writers unfavourably, always consider their talent to be far superior to my own.
I would like to know if there are any other members on here who fight this daily battle, and if so how you deal with it, or have overcome it.
It stops me trying to promote my books to the public because, in my opinion, they're just not good enough.
So, I have finally come out of the closet... I am an imposter, can anyone else relate to this?

Profile Information
I first began by writing stories for the entertainment of my two young grandsons, I also received commissions for poems to celebrate christenings, or to pay tribute to lost loved ones. But my greatest achievement so far, is the publication of my debut Novel, The Contest, a quirky, tongue-in-cheek version of a modern day fairy tale, set in the Kingdom of Cyberia. The idea was hatched after taking the boys to a pantomime. I had so much fun writing a fairy-tale that would resonate in today’s world of technology, reality TV, and celebrity culture. It is aimed at a young adult audience (or the young at heart).
I couldn’t imagine life without my lap-top. Writing gives me so much pleasure, it is part of who I am. I am an advocate of post-it notes for scribbling down ideas before they float off into the ether, usually just as I'm dropping off to sleep at night. It's deciphering them in the morning that is the challenge!
The Legacy, sequel The Contest, is finally complete after a zillion edits! All comments gratefully received.
