Profile Information

Enrique is cautious and adventurous, serious and lighthearted, cerebral and intuitive, realistic and spiritual. His wife will tell you that he is enigmatic and unconventional. This is the author in a nutshell.

Enrique’s inquisitive nature became evident at a very young age as he thrust himself into deep philosophical conversations with his father regarding science, spirituality, religion and metaphysical matters. He will tell you that no topic was off-limits—all he had to do was ask.

Eventually, Enrique pursued diverse studies in pre-med and became a Respiratory Therapist in 1973, then he earned a degree in anthropology from the University of South Florida, Tampa. During his anthropological training, two focal points of attraction summoned him—religion and medical anthropology. Thus, throughout his years as a practicing respiratory therapist, Enrique continued to study religion and spirituality from a cross-cultural perspective.

In the early 1990s, he accepted the position of Director of Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at the former Transitional Hospital in Tampa, Florida, but eventually returned to hands-on patient care that he preferred—and pursued further studies in the field of alternative healing methods.

In 1996, he became an Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master and a Karuna® Reiki Master and began teaching Reiki Certification Classes. His curriculum included classes on other alternative healing methods, and he went on to earn certifications in Reflexology and Hypnotherapy and became a Certified Chromotherapist, Aura Therapist, Sound Therapist, and Chakra Therapist.

Within a year after his nearing-death experience in 2001, he returned to the healthcare field—this time, with a new perspective—one in which he recognized the need to integrate holistic practices into Western therapies—treating the body, mind, and spirit. Throughout his career of 45 years, his primary area of expertise was caring for critically ill patients and their loved ones. With his renewed vigor and conviction, he successfully melded the Western and Eastern philosophies of patient care into his respiratory care practice until his retirement in 2018.

As he continues to write, his wife asked him, Why are you finally writing these books? Engaged in a deep conversation with his keyboard, Enrique paused, raised his eyes over the rim of his round, black-wire glasses, and with a gentle smile said softly and without hesitation, It’s time.
