My name is Alex. I'm a masters psychology student at university in scotland. I started writing years ago when I was 13. My dream was and is to be an author. I started writing a novel and completed it when I was 18 starting another. SInce then I have completed to and begun three others writing songs and poems in between. 

I guess I was inspired by my Dad reading "The Hobbit" to me was very little, before reading the Lord of the Rings, The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, Terry Pratchett's discworld and even the twilight saga when I got older. I read shakespeare, with american great novels, such as the great gatsby, the winter of discontent, Atlas shrugged and of mice and men,

When I was younger I read the Alex rider series, harry potter and artemis fowl.

A personal favourite of mine is Glen Duncan's I Lucifer. A brilliant piece of satire on the christian religion. 

I find less and less time to right these days due to my commitments to both university and love ones as well as further distractions. I'd like to think that my writing is unique but I have to recognise that hundreds probably thousands of people write just like I do, at the level I do and possibly even with similar ideas and stories. But I believe that our writing is a voice into our soul, it can be a way of dealing with our own experiences or helping understand anothers. It is defined by our views and beliefs, our experiences and inspirations and none of ours will be the same. 

As I was told at a musical theatre course this summer we are all beautifully flawed and we all see the world differently from how others do. We can create people, worlds, universes and we can write how other people feel or felt. These worlds can be so vivid, so dynamic that one night you may find yourself dreaming of them, you may find yourself wishing to be part of them. It is a gift make no mistake, to have control over such a powerful and brilliant escapism. 

Because sometimes life is shit, sometimes it sucks, sometimes your going to scream out at the top of your lungs from all the pain and suffering you can see and feel around you. And you'll cry. You'll cry more than most and they won't understand you. They won't understand why your in pain if your life is great. They won't understand you can feel another's pain like it's your own. But don't let it stop you because we the writers, the poets. the painters, the muscians. We are the dreamers and we will always follow our dream. 

My novels are mainly science fiction and fantasy. My poems and lyrics often revolve around love and starting september I'll probably start an MSC In journalism. I hope you like my writing, I hope it has meaning for some of you out there even if it's just one person and I'll be sure to read yours, maybe even finding a new inspiration.
