Profile Information

I am a Brooklyn-based artist, designer, technologist, & producer. But in 1986 I was just a baby eekin' out a living in the great city of
Indianapolis. I survived an apartment fire nine months after being born, but my recollection is hazy. It never came up in my work.
I had a dog I named Arielle. A shih-tzu. And I've always had an interest in the way mainstream America is influenced by popular culture.
I started playing the violin at a young age & have always loved listening to music, but my taste was primarily based on what was on
the radio. By middle school I'd lost interest & developed some angst. I quit the violin & got my first set of drums. Like any other well-
behaved, privately educated Middle American suburbanite, I adopted hip-hop as my own, & even claimed to relate to it. Still stuck with
the radio, but on a different station.
Naturally, I made my way to the guitar from the drums, watering that anti-mainstream seed until it grew into a one-way ticket to
Colorado where I made some friends before winding up in Hamilton, NY. It was there I embraced my impending fate as an artist &
embraced every existential crisis that came my way in a wild quest to make sense of my own practice.
I became obsessed with the 'typical Middle American citizen' & it's relationship to the art world. Where my work began as a strictly
formal investigation of household materials, I soon became interested in installation & installation-based performance as a medium for
engaging the typically uninterested, apathetic consumer. At the same time I began making music digitally, DJing, and developing new
interfaces for designing & creating sound.
By the end of my stay upstate, I had begun to merge my interest in digital sound with my interest in installation and performance, &
rather than obsessing over making someone else the subject of my work, I found it most honest and compelling to put my own life on
display for all to see.  Since fleeing from the hills of Hamilton, I have continued to explore the use of new technologies to create
interactive installations & performances. I've been doing web-based video work professionally for five years, designing and building
MIDI-controllers for DJs and performers, and working as a creative technologiest and interaction designer since receiving my Master's
in Interactive Telecommunications at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
